Nathan has applied for a new position
The hospital has posted some new positions as they switch over their new computer system "Epic". Nathan has been involved with Epic since the ground floor being the representative from his floor to help design what is needed on the Psych templates within this program.Now, he has applied and interviewed for one of the two year positions.
One of the things he had to prepare besides questions for this 30 minute interview was a presentation of a 7-day survival kit for himself if he were lost in a snow storm. He took a bag of things. First off a box of Special K snack bars which he described as "the bomb" and gave each of the interviewers one for later as a snack. (They loved that!) He kept them in stitches laughing, he reports, as he had new underwear, some feebreeze, socks, pictures of his kids, & a bag of M& Ms (for eating playing poker, creating pictures - but rather boring for reading.) Also included were Duct tape, toothpaste, deodorant, SPAM, diet coke and a flashlight with a laser pointer. The interview went well, he felt like he gave a great representation of who he is. As we sat and talked later, he doesn't want to become someone else, so if he's not right for the job, he hopes he won't be selected. But he feels he did a good job of portraying himself as a good guy for this teaching position.
This job will be a position of training - three weeks of being trained by EPIC on how to train, and then he would be responsible for a group within the hospital, conceivably the Physicians, or the Emergency staff, or the OB floor, etc. He would work/train all shifts(but mostly days), and be "the guy" for that group. He was specifically asked how he works with the physicians. There were 9 interviews on June 12 and he will hear soon.
If not selected, he very much likes his position now. While accepting the new position would guarantee a place back on his unit at the completion of the position, it would not necessarily guarantee him night status. It may also increase his hours, as he's currently working a 72 hour pay shift instead of 80. That works best now for nights to only do 72. We'll let you know!

Summer 2010
Kacy has been selected to help, as a paid position, with The River City Children's Theater this summer. The camp, run by our Megan Wacker, includes three individual weeks of camp. Kacy will be helping teach kids about tech, lighting and sound equipment in the theater.
Spencer has currently applied to work at the IGA store, and has had his refrences checked and been asked to come in when he is home. This hopes to be his summer 'line of work'
Nathan has no summer plans, to speak of, except to attend the Oregon Crusaders show in Salem on July 2
Tiersa's school is out on June 18, Kacy is done on June 16, Spencer will be home after he plays a paid gig on his tuba for Graduation at WOU on June 12. Nathan is pouting that his summer work plans don't change - however he is considering a new position recently posted at his hospital. more on that as he decides.

(Anyone over a certain age and fans of Mad Men may be familiar with this patriarchal, decidedly non-PC world). Audience members will be treated to a live studio performance complete with a three camera set-up and commercial breaks right out of the era. It’s sure to make you laugh and might just make you think (that is, if your husband will let you!).

It was an intense week March 2-6!
KACY: Kacy's braces went on last week on Tuesday.
Then, the other thing that happened this week is that we got a call from the High School and band teacher that Kacy was in distress over breathing after playing the flute for 10 minutes. The ambulance was there at the High School to assist. That was very scarey for all of us.
Ultimately she got control, however the EMT did say that her respirations were up to 20 even though her oxygen reading was good. We declined transport, and they were comfortable with that decision as well. Don Courtain brought her home and Nathan joined her as he was able to leave work easier than Tiersa.
We REALLY are loooking forward to her appointment on Tuesday with the specialst from OHSU.

Spencer's week included two major decisions and a concert! What an amazing concert it was of little ensembles, The joy of seeing Spencer's quintet is that with 5 people you could really hear a tuba!!! It was a fun night.
His two decisions included thinking through many aspects, and deciding to put in for a SINGLE room for next term, and to change his major from Science to "Exploratory".
NEXT WEEK: Mon: Nathan has two meetings that night. Nathan works days

Thurs: Heading to Monomouth 7pm concert
Fri: Picking up Kathy Koskellat at 1pm, Family meeting in Portland for "WICKED"
Sat: Helwig luncheon in Salem.

As per tradition, - no contingency for rain
And so the student plan reads: 8:30-9:30 RECEIVING LINE March out of your seating area around the track TELL FRIENDS AND RELATIVES TO MEET YOU ON THE "EAST" END OF TRACK. Following you will receive your diploma in room B-36. You will board the Senior Safe and Sober Party bus through room B-40.

TEXT MESSAGING
Well, the kids have begged us and we have given in and gotten them Text messaging. WHAT A MESS! There is just this unleashed constant distraction now vibrating in their pockets. It's a new learning for when to and how to be politically and familially correct. GRRRR. We've resisted for so long........ now we'll see how it goes. If you'd like to send them a text message ( of which they may only send and receive 250 a month) you may do so from your cell phone to theirs, or through this handy site on the computer that I found today. http://parentsempowered.org/send/Call me if you don't have their cell phone numbers.
UPDATE: That didn't work! In three days Kacy had reached her 250 limit!! Can we believe that??!! So... we made the decision to upgrade again. They now have unlimited "in-texting" (meaning people with Verizon) and 500 monthly texts otherwise. This just raised the annual budget another $120 annual. ARGH!!) I guess that we are moving with the times...but OUCH! Did I feel pinched into the technological corner!

Little Women
Well, the finals competition have now come and gone. We finished 5th in the 13 A bands, and the kids are pleased that the season is over.
Next up.......... LITTLE WOMEN!!
Both kids are Techies for this play. We look forward to celebrating the next School success in the THEATER DEPARTMENT!

Today's home building day
Today the "Project House" calls us to complete the sheeting on the roof. The inspector is coming tomorrow and shingles will go on on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Today's burning of the old sheeting may welcome friends to a weiner roast. Went shopping last night and the makings are all there. Feel welcome to join us..any time. We're almost always there now adays.
Thank goodness for cell phones!! Progress is amazing at this house!!

10/27 Vancouver Competition
Great news! They did it again!
They won the Prelim Trophy for colorguard and they went to finals.
Their prelim score was a 69.8 and their final competition score a 66.5, although the Parent thought was that they did a much finer performance at the finals round than as the scores might suggest.

10/27 Upon arrival home....
A normal arrival after a band competition back to St Helens includes the unloading of the band trailer. It's not the fine welcome of from bus seat to car seat for our babies, but rather a haul out and cart uniforms and bass drums into the school. Instruments have to be ready to go for class on Monday, not locked up in somebody's band trailer backed into some long driveway :). So last night's early arrival was great! Kids were awake at 10:30 and hauling a few uniforms and shako boxes was good teamwork fun. It's what we arrived to last night at HOME that was a bit of a team-pulling argh. As always, Sadie was so excited to see us - jumping too and fro and wagging her tail so joyfully. However last night, she had this new white stripe growing on her back ....and the front yard, and garage was quite definitely odiforously attached to that long driveway.
Yes, at 11:00 it was time to draw straws to see who was going to give Sadie a bath and WHERE that bath might take place. Thank you Internet! The perfect recipe for skunk fume removal is a pint of Hydrogen peroxide, a box of baking soda, two squirts of dish soap and a gallon of warm water. It really was amazing. Ok...so it's not what we want to do after every competition, but together we went to bed with a wet dog at our feet, that settled in for the night wagging her tail with a new scent of Febreeze!

Our trailer has a new look!
Neighbor, Jim Syrstad, has had the vision of this decal for the past few years.
What a nice gift to the band for our trailer. :) There were so many smiles when we pulled in the first day! Kids LOVE being repesented in such style! THANKS JIM!
